When you have many visitors, it's lovely when they step inside onto a rug that can handle plenty of footsteps. Rugs made from sisal, for example, are wonderfully easy to walk on. Probably thanks to the very welcoming and natural fibres that make up these rugs. Beyond the strength of the material, sisal rugs have a certain calm quality. Ideal if you want to keep the noise down. Jute rugs are also welcome guests in the hall. They share many similarities with sisal rugs, such as strength and a rustic look. But jute rugs have a slightly sharper edge, giving them a bit more of a rugged appearance. They're also available in surprising, round shapes. Your visitors will be right in the spotlight when they enter your home.
A practical hallway rug
Are most of your visitors just popping by? Welcome them with an airy rug! Cotton rugs look nice and light, but they're robust enough for daily use. They're also easy to throw in the washing machine if someone comes in with muddy feet. A tip: lay an anti-slip underlay under the cotton rug so everything stays in place and people don't slip on their way in.
Materials like wool, viscose, chenille and high-pile rugs are less suitable for a hall or hallway. They're more susceptible to dirt particles and can become dented if too much foot traffic passes over them. You also risk people lingering in the hall, mesmerised by the chenille rug or rolling around on the woollen carpet!
