Sustainability at Volero

Since we started as an online rug specialist, we’ve wanted one thing above all: to make your home warmer and more inviting. But before a rug lies in your home, it has already made quite a journey. From yarn and weaving mills to the warehouse and the delivery — that process has an impact. And we don’t want to talk around it.

That’s why we make more conscious choices every day: in materials, in how we work with suppliers, and in how we run our warehouse, office and fleet. Here we show where we stand now and which goals we’ve set towards 2030, so you know what story lies beneath your feet.

The route to 2030: our three pillars

Beneath that journey from yarn to front door stand three beacons: Planet, People and Organisation.

Planet

Materials and packaging, such as OEKO-TEX, GRS and shipping with recycled cardboard.

People

The makers and the chain: we visit suppliers and check working conditions and agreements.

Organisation

How we arrange things here, with goals for our fleet, paper use and commuting.

That’s how we make our choices towards 2030 visible. Not with a perfect finish line, but with a clear route.

Good for your home, good for the earth

A rug has an impact before it ever reaches you. That’s why we pay attention to materials, production and transport, so that what you bring into your home isn’t only beautiful, but also a better choice for the earth.

Our sustainable Rugaia collections show that style and sustainability go together perfectly. We use recyclable and recycled materials for our sustainable rugs and work with labels such as OEKO-TEX®, GRS® and Cradle to Cradle Certified®.

We pack smartly with recycled cardboard, transport as much as possible by ship and give 95% of our returns a second life. And we keep looking for ways to make those last kilometres greener still.

Together with the people who make it

For us, sustainability is about people. From the makers of our rugs to everyone within our own team. That’s why we visit our tier-1 suppliers in person every year. That way we see with our own eyes how the work is done and can check whether the people behind the product are treated safely, fairly and with respect.

Inside Volero we also invest in healthy, energetic work. We encourage movement with company fitness, encourage colleagues to take the bike or train more often, and create a working environment where you feel comfortable and valued. Because caring for a fair product starts with caring well for the people around it.

An organisation that thinks ahead

Sustainability isn’t something you should only promise — you have to show it. That’s why we’re making our own operations greener step by step: our warehouse runs entirely on solar energy and is gas-free, and our office has an A+ energy label and a smart climate system that uses energy sparingly.

We also make conscious choices visible for customers. On every product page you’ll find materials, certifications and care advice to extend the lifespan. That way you can choose consciously and know straight away how future-proof your rug is. For us, sustainability isn’t a one-off campaign but daily practice.

Sustainable quality labels at Volero

OEKO-TEX® Standard 100

The OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certificate stands for free from harmful substances. It’s a worldwide certification system for textiles that guarantees products are free of harmful chemicals, protecting consumer safety — particularly on skin contact.

GRS® (Global Recycled Standard)

GRS® is an independent, international certification indicating that a product contains at least 50% recycled material. The label also sets requirements for environmental and social conditions in production, with a traceable chain.

Cradle to Cradle Certified®

Cradle to Cradle Certified® is a strict, independent product standard. The label assesses design and production across several sustainability categories, such as material health, circularity and responsible manufacturing.
