Upside down with a reversible rug

How is a reversible rug made
Making a reversible rug requires a bit more than making a single-sided rug. A reversible rug can be manufactured using two different weaving techniques. So you can have both a woven rug and a braided rug. Because of this, it's impossible to tell which is the front or back, simply because there aren't any.
What's the difference between a woven rug and a braided rug?
Woven rug
Weaving a rug is an age-old technique in which different patterns are created by laying yarn both horizontally and vertically together. The horizontal 'weft threads' are stretched at right angles to the vertically laid 'warp'. This produces a strong rug that is particularly hard-wearing. Due to the weaving technique, the rug has no pile and is therefore easy to clean.
Braided rug
A braided rug is simply nothing more than multiple plaits together. Depending on the shape, multiple plaits can be attached together for a rectangular rug. With a round rug you'll see that the plait starts in the middle and continues round until the desired size is reached. Because of the braided technique, the rug can be used on both sides. An additional advantage is that it's braided tightly, which means a rug is hard-wearing.
Why you should choose a reversible rug
We've already mentioned it; a reversible rug gives you the opportunity to give a different 'feel' to your interior every so often.
A reversible rug also has other advantages. Does the rug start to wear on one side or do you have a stubborn stain that won't come out no matter what? No problem. Flip the rug over and hey presto! Good as new. A reversible rug is a sustainable purchase that you can enjoy for even longer.
Besides the weaving technique, there's another difference between a woven and a braided rug. A braided rug can only be given a printed pattern. With a braided rug you might think of a jute rug. With these rugs the beautiful braided structure is clearly visible. In contrast to braided rugs, there are more options with woven rugs. With a vintage outdoor rug with a flat-woven structure, multiple colours are often used. A reversible vintage outdoor rug therefore has the same print on both sides, but in different colour schemes. Do you prefer a flat-woven rug without print? Then a wool rug might be the solution for you.
