When should you choose an XXL outdoor rug?

Not every outdoor space needs a large outdoor rug, but in these situations it is the only size that truly works:

• You have a corner sofa or large lounge set where the furniture looks disconnected without a rug underneath.
• Your garden table is longer than 200 cm and you want chairs to stay on the rug even when pulled back.
• Your patio is larger than 25 m2 and a smaller rug visually disappears in the space.
• You want to create a clear outdoor living zone in an open garden or on a large patio.

In these cases, a large outdoor rug does more than decorate: it adds structure, brings the furniture together and turns your patio or garden into a proper outdoor living space.

XXL or XL: which one do you need?

• XL (230x330 cm or 240x330 cm): suitable for a medium-sized lounge set or a garden table for six people. All chairs fit on the rug, with space around them. This is the most popular size for first-time buyers choosing a large outdoor rug.
• XXL (280x380 cm or 300x400 cm): suitable for a full setup with a corner sofa, coffee table and separate chairs, or a garden table with eight to ten seats. At almost four metres long, it has an immediate impact on the look of your outdoor space.

How do you measure for a large outdoor rug?

With large sizes, measuring is extra important because a mismatch stands out straight away. Here is how to get it right:

• Measure the full width and depth of your setup, including the coffee table and chairs in their everyday position.
• Add at least 30 to 40 cm around all sides beyond the furniture.
• Mark out the exact size on your patio with painter’s tape. This shows you straight away whether the rug overpowers the space or is too small, before you order.

Large outdoor rug under a long garden table

Allow at least 60 cm extra around every side of the table, so chairs stay fully on the rug when pulled back. For a 200x100 cm table, that means a rug of at least 320x220 cm. You can find more size advice in our article on choosing the right outdoor rug size.

Large round outdoor rugs

A large outdoor rug does not always have to be rectangular. Do you have a round setup or a patio without strong straight lines? Then a round outdoor rug in a large size may suit the space better. A round rug with a diameter of 250 cm or 300 cm adds structure without the angular feel of a rectangle.

Material and care
